Remember you are not limited to fill in the blanks using one or two words. The prompt is a framework. Make sure your thesis states the problem and root cause.
Example: The most significant issue facing [Chicago youth] is gang violence because the lack of funding provided to low income neighborhoods has lead to a lack of security from Chicago law enforcement.
The most significant issue facing my community is poor supervision and support from parents in the Chicago area because parents are prioritizing everything over their own children causing youth to be exposed to the cruel streets of Chicago, where the most common activities taking place are violence and illegal drug trafficking.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is immigration laws because instead of moving forward in our society we keep getting held back by silly reasons. America is suppose to be a free country, where everyone is suppose to be able to pursue happiness yet because of immigration laws some people are being denied the right to work in certain places. Kids up until a while ago weren't allowed the opportunity to go to college. Many people believe they need to put restrictions on immigrants because they are afraid that we are "criminals".
ReplyDeleteI agree with this issue completely, and adding to the students not being able to attend school comes the whole Dream Act issue.
DeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is bullying because social media has created this image of "perfection," making bullies insecure about themselves;Due to this, bullies try to boost their self esteem to try to make themselves closer to the image of "perfection." Although trying to reach this image of "perfection" is just used to make teenagers around the U.S. buy the company's product, it has been hurting many teenagers, and unnecessary bullying has occurred throughout the world.

ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is child hunger within the United States because there are too many low paying jobs that do not provide enough money for a family to budget in food. Yes, it may sound harsh but for some families food is not in the budget. In fact, 16 million American kids go to bed hungry every night. This leads to families resorting to food pantries. I am not saying that pantries are a negative to society because they are actually very helpful, but how many people take advantage of this help? How many people don't actually need the food, but take it because it's free? Then, another problem rises: there is not any food left for the families that actually need it, which in the end comes back to the problem of child hunger.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my communtiy is the lack of exploration and expression of cultural roots because teens fear being rejected by their peers if they do not fit into society's mold of "normal". This mold is dictated and sculpted by the celebrities and teen idols of the day who have a huge influence on a teen's maturing mind. As these same teens strive to be like their favorite t.v. star or musician they forget about who they truely are and their cultural history; which was once so important to the people of their ethncity and taught them virtures, traditions and pride in who you are and where you come from.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my country is a faulty two-party political system, caused by the fact Republicans and Democrats can't conspire, instead they compete, and collide to create an imaginary semblance so we cast their vote, rather than collaborating, and compromising to create a solution to the problems contaminating this country. A fight that was once for a better America has turned into a war for power, and money, but don't be fooled, all the commotion is nothing but a mask worn by GREED, the real root of this evil.

ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is teenage apathy towards education not just in the Round Lake area but it stretches farther than that even including the Chicago area and it has been spreading quickly because of distractions from technology and the media's advertising tactics which influence teens to buy and use that technology. Now you may be asking yourselves how does the media influence teenagers to buy that certain type of technology and how do they distract them from school?Well it's simple the media's advertising tactics make it seem as if you need that certain technology or else you wont be "cool" and they make it seem like technology is more important than school but in reality without school you can't have technology.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is immigrants coming to America illegally in search for a better life because America has been given an image of being the superior country, while having the so called "American Dream" also driving that image. The pure act of isolation, racism, and the constant denying of letting "illegals" get their papers because of their bad reputation and poor backgrounds, is the real root that drives this whole situation.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is deportation without representation because immigrants are stripped of the rights written in the United States constitution. This leads to immigrants not having the same opportunity as a US citizen to defend themselves.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant problem facing my community is teens not paying attention to major events and political news because they feel they would be different and not accept if they didn't have technology to distract them from the news and other major events.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is bad influences effecting teens because of lack of parental supervision; due to the fact that parents are assuming their child is on the right track, when in reality they are on a path to failure. Of course every parent has their problems but most parents are so caught up in their work that they don't notice who their child are admiring or trying to imitate. These play a major role and throughout time the effects will kick in. Kids will end up dropping out of school, become drug dealers, have reckless behavior (partying, drinking, smoking), and breaking laws. Parents do not understand how important it is to be strict and be open for discussions and talks. Otherwise, they are just letting teens know it's okay to continue on the path they are currently on.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is the lack of academic motivation within teens because meanwhile parents are struggling themselves to support a family, sometimes including working overtime. Parents are the primary factor during a teen's most crucial time of growth. It takes little for a parent to become so caught up in their own burdens even those of which they only have because they are working so hard to provide for their family. But these very few mistakes are what cause teens to become misguided, later resulting in a lack of academic motivation at school.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue in my community is how ethnic groups in America tend to blame other groups, especially minorities, for problems in America, which I feel strongly about because I am part of a minority. This in turn is because of citizens being brought up and surrounded with racial discrimination and stereotyping, and it gets worse during hard times because with human nature, we sometimes become fearful of what's to come when times get rough, and we end up feeling the need to blame others for problems that come up when in truth everyone or no one is to blame.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is the lack of motivation within the students of RLHS because teachers overlook the potential of students & have such low expectations, but its not only the teachers but parents too. The majority of parents see that not attending college as an acceptable decision because they feel its unnecessary and a waste if money, but why is their children's future a waste if money? As for the teachers, most teachers don't understand that they must find the way to motivate their students because although they may think that this ones students life is unimportant and not influential in their private life. The students they are neglecting are the rising future, these young adults will eventually populate the area & if not prepared they will not only sink in poverty & ignorance but so will the entire community that is round lake.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is teenage cyber bullying because bullies are created from being bullied in their own home. Bullies create bullies, and if we don't put a stop to it then it's going to keep getting worse and worse. It's not right that young adults take away their own life because someone is picking on them.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is teenage insecurity because of teenagers lack of confidence. People my age tend to worry too much about what other people think of them, and they aren't being themselves. I know that sounds cliche but it's true. They don't think that their real personality will yield relationships and friendships when that's all they should ever show. In turn, it really just ends up hurting them in the end, because they end up with friends they most likely don't really belong with and they end up with relationships that aren't right. Teens simply need to just need to stand up with who they actually are, and see where it gets them. There will always be friends out there.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is mental, psychological and physical disorders in females because girls are insecure. Social media is put on blast by technology nowadays. For example, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram all have accounts or pages dedicated to a sort of topic such as 'thinsporaton' (inspiration to be thin or have a 'thin body') or something of the sort. I find it absolutely revolting that teenagers are glorifying real issues such as self harm or eating disorders. These girls give "names" to issues like they have a personality to them (such as "Ana" meaning anorexia or "Deb" for depression). It sickens me to know that there are people who want to recover from these disorders but there are people who are praising these REAL issues. Insecurity has blinded teenage girls, thus creating a large issue. These girls who do not love their bodies end up making it worse, which could lead to deaths in many cases. These girls have the chance to do better for themselves in a positive way but they do not realize it. The number of disorders in teenage girls are rising because they think that they have to look a particular way when they are already beautiful. This is all due to the pressure of society. This is all because girls have self image problems and want to fit in.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is that there is a lack of youth voice because the media exploits youth.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is poor education in minorities because the lack of funding, which has been caused from not enough involvement of parents and students low standardized test scores. What makes a difference in a community is how much their citizens are involved. So if there is no interest, then no progress is being made and instead of moving foreword the citizens move backwards.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is that teens commonly value their peers and popularity over their own families; they follow trends and try to stay "cool" while almost ignoring their family. This is bad because a person's family is very important to their developing phase, families really drive who a teen turns out to be as a person, so by not being with their family, teens miss out on the life lessons and guidance that a family offers.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community is that we as a race cannot work together because of artificial isolation, which sprouts from the countries we have formed that separate us from one another.
ReplyDeleteThe most significant issue facing my community today is the environment and the lack of concern the general population puts forth on the matter; as the main contributors to the effects of global warming and the depletion of natural resources, the duty of rejuvenating Earth back to its natural wonder falls upon the shoulders of our generation. Over the years, since the dawn of time, the human race has pillaged and drained dry everything the land had to offer- food, shelter, means of transportation. We have polluted the air, exhausted our natural resources, filled our waterways with oil and trash. We have impoverished the natural landscape, instead to cultivate a vision of an industrialized America, where business and politics reign supreme over the efforts to preserve the gifts Mother Nature had given. If we do not work together to achieve balance between technology and the Earth, the fate of our kind will soon be analogous to the extinction of animals we have caused in our quest for industrialization.
