About this Blog

This blog is both the process and the product of a three-week summer writer's workshop with 26 high-school sophomores from upstate Illinois. Focused on social justice issues, the workshop is a writing and public speaking workshop designed to empower the students with a clear voice.

These students are part of the Schuler Scholar Program, a non-profit college access organization whose mission is to prepare under-resourced, high potential students to succeed at the most competitive private colleges and universities. Schuler Scholars are typically first-generation college-bound, come from under-resourced families or communities and will need financial assistance in order to attend college. Many Scholars are from a population that is under represented on college campuses. For more information about the Schuler Scholar Program or about the blog, please email altagracia@schulerprogram.org or emilym@schulerprogram.org.

We adapted the Project Soapbox curriculum from the Mikva Challenge.
