My community with the most issues was the fine arts program. This includes band, choir, and guard. The fine arts suffers from lack of recognition of importance, which leads to poor funding and poor opportunities. The lack of recognition makes the program very hard to have or enjoy. When the guard girls get hurt the school medical center says they only help real sports even though the guard has gotten 1st at state twice in the last 3 years and does better then any of the "real sports". The sports can afford a working medic golf cart, but the music program can not afford a working piano keyboard.
ReplyDeleteMy community with the most issues would be the family aspect. Now a days there are many families that have fallen apart and become less close. There is no care, no importance, no love. Families are, dare I say, beginning to be a reflection of society. "Me generation" comes to mind a lot. What happened to the selfless families who help out the communtiy? Most of the time instead of the whole family going to help out, it's only the mom or the dad or the kid. They don't go as a FAMILY. My family goes out on outreaches as a family for my church. No one ever stays home because that is what families are supposed to do. Whenever my family goes out together like that, others find it strange because that isn't normal, which is very sad to me considering my family does everything together. When I go out and only see part of a family hanging out, it annoys me because I see it as if they are ignoring the others or aren't thinking of them. It may seem silly but a family that doesn't function together is strange to me.

DeleteMy community with the most issues is the community of Round Lake. I know that this is a very broad and general topic, but I would like to focus on some of the negative aspects of this town. First off, who decided to label Round Lake as a bad place? How many times have I seen people react with shock and immediately judge the fact that I'm from Round Lake? Too many times.The fact of the matter is that even people particularly students from Round Lake don't show pride and a positive attitude regarding the subject. You hear it in the hallways all the time "Round Lake is ghetto" or "RLHS is ghetto", but what does that really mean? It means nothing. This is because Round Lake does have positives to it, but the negative attitudes of the youth and even the adults reflect negatively on this town and are more overwhelming than the positive. We need PRIDE and we need POSITIVE ATTITUDES so that we can move forward and change how outsiders (for lack of better terms) perceive Round Lake. We are all one community and one body of people that need to unite because change starts from within.

My community with the most issues is that of my generation. Now a days kids my age are out "partying", drinking, doing drugs, fighting and all sorts of reckless behavior. It is very sad to see these kids ruining their lives to try and "be cool". Because of their behavior teenage girls are getting pregnant at a very young age and thinking it is normal. Kids are getting involved with the wrong types of people, who in the end will only bring them more trouble. The list can go on and on about all the things that need to be fixed with today's youth. All though these kids now don't see that they are doing wrong, their actions affect everyone around them. When they make bad decisions it reflects bad on everyone around them. In many cases a few bad kids do something dumb and the whole community gets looked at as bad. This is unfair to the kids who actually contribute good for their community.

It's sad to know that my generation has forgotten about wanting to become something successful, like a doctor, astronaut, or a scientist. They are not showing their full potential in what they can do. They do not have that wanting in growing up to make history or help others. They are influenced in wanting to live the life of a rapper. Rappers don't necessarily make the smartest decisions, shown by their aspects of life. All they do is party, drink, or smoke. They're influencing my generation in a wrong way, leading teenagers into the wrong path.Into the path of not finishing high school or not attending college. This takes away attention from other kids who really are challenging themselves and wanting to become somebody in life. Making my generation and school look bad.
ReplyDeleteMy community with the most issues was the gaming community.There are many players that only play to make fun of others and ridicule them.I mean for me gaming is like a hobby but I certainly feel like this is an issue that needs to be resolved because kids don't need to be put through that and it isn't funny its just wrong.This may stem off of bullying and it is the same thing but I just feel like it happens too much in the gaming community and it's just sad to see how low people can go just so they can make themselves look tough online.Kids don't play video games just to be ridiculed by others about how they play or where they are from, they play to have fun.

I believe that my race has been stamped on with so many stereotypes that now, many Mexicans have started to follow on that "stamp" just because they have been put on us. I don't appreciate that many teenagers cannot be themselves because they started to believe and follow these "stamps." I believe many of these stereotypes are offensive. Just because I'm Mexican, that means I have to do yard work? Just because I'm Mexican, I have to have all night parties? I have to eat tacos and love spicy food? I have to listen to "Mexican" music? I feel as though many kids are being set into this category and unable to live the lives THEY want to live. I believe this causes many unhappy kids and these stereotypes can hurt people.

So,why do Mexicans have to have the stamp that we "take" everyone's job? I hope everyone in this Mexican community can see that we have too many stereotypes put on us.

In my mind when reading this, I imagined every person with a "stamp" on their forehead listing their stereotypes - what does it look like to you? Is the stamp a reference to skin color, the language people speak, etc.? What do you want to reader to visualize? You could use an analogy like this in your speech!
DeleteMy community that seemed to have the most issues is the round lake high school baseball community. This Community just today played against Lakes high school and had only 8 high school players with 9 needed to play. The people in this community obviously don't care much about the other people in the community. Another issue with this community is the lack of equipment that we have. Just one community over to lakes they have a working scoreboard and enough player to play the game. Also, when it is raining outside every other baseball team has a tarp to cover their field. We have 2 very small tarps that we cover the pitching mound and batter's box that have to be hold down with cinder blocks.
ReplyDeleteOne community I'd like to focus on and pinpoint problems on is the fine arts department at Round Lake High School and in the country. Over the past few years, the program has started going downhill. Band programs are declining in the middle schools in Round Lake, leading to an ultimate fall in the music department. Recently, the school board has upgraded the Round Lake High School choir for the 2013-2014 school year. This year, treble choir has come back to the choir program after being cut a few years ago, adding up to four ensembles instead of three. Due to treble choir being cut, it affected students negatively. Last school year, the band director left RLHS to permanently teach at RLMS. Because of this, the choir director had to take on the challenge of directing both choir and band. This then led to a stressful year for the director as well as the students. Advanced choir, which consists of Panther Voices and Women's Ensemble, had to take place in one class period which meant less rehearsal time for both choirs. This school year, the school board is hiring two separate teachers for band and choir, respectively. The ultimate question is, why are music programs failing or being cut? As a student who is passionate for the fine arts and as a student who is going into Panther Voices, the school's elite choir, I find it extremely unfair that the fine arts are not truly appreciated by the student body. Us musicians are just as important as sports. We have practices and rehearsals, we join as a family and support each other in competitions or in concerts. Back when the show 'Glee' started airing, Cory Monteith played a character named Finn who was a football player but was also part of glee club. Why is it that these people are looked down upon for being a talented musician? To me, it doesn't make sense and I believe that the music program is essential to every musician's high school experience.
ReplyDeleteMy community that presents itself with the most issues is Round Lake, narrowing it down to its citizens. I believe the source for many of the town's issues are the parents. Often times I hear people say "bad students attend Round Lake Area Public Schools." But often the parents are overlooked. Because isn't it the parents who influence their children? Parental neglect is becoming a key factor in troubled children. But why are so many parents failing to be a part of growing children? I believe those same parents who fail to make a difference in their child's life are the very same who had poor education themselves; who were never brought up correctly themselves. Or, in many cases, parents fail to become involved in their child's life. And although they have great intentions, may not even know the slightest bit of their child's behavior outside of home. Thus, the lack of guidance from parents produces the mass majority of children who have no motivation towards their educational careers eventually reflecting poorly on Round Lake Schools as a whole.

DeleteMy community with the most issues was the athletic community, primarily soccer. The issues could go on forever, but the main problems are the "groups" separated within the whole group of players. For example, Varsity does not need to do anything when it comes to doing work or cleaning, instead they are pampered and have their little "servants", aka freshman. This really bothers me because this really shows that the coaching staff could care less of newbies, unless they are a favorite. But anyways, the main point is that soccer has not been as enjoyable as I would have liked it to be this past year because talent could matter less if you are an "alien" to the coaches. Talent should speak for you, not others, talent should put you on Varsity, not others. Soccer is a big part of me and others in this school, and it could not be enjoyed if half the people on the team are there for the wrong reasons. So in conclusion, soccer has become less enjoyable because of the coaching staff picking players for the wrong reason and the separation of "so-called friends" in a "so-called family."

Minorities such as Latinos, get a label put on them for doing work others wouldn't want to do like landscaping, factory workers or field work. Minorities in general have more difficulty finding good paying jobs and opportunities for a better education. It really bugs me because I see and hear people bashing minorities and people thinking less of them because they're not from here. There is a reason why people immigrate to the U.S. and that reason is for a better life for one and there family. Just like most people in this country, minorities work and contribute to there peers and community. These issues will cause a problem because when a person with great potential and is a minority wants to succeed in a big environment they won't be given a chance due to his background.
ReplyDeleteOne community that I think should be looked at and have effort put into it is the immigration ad immigrants in America community. It is a major issue that NEEDS to be solved, or at least have a future plan that will be put into effect. I strongly believe that everyone in this country should be given the opportunity to be able to have a better life and a better living environment, no matter the race nor the completion of one's face. Didn't the Declaration of Independence state that every man shall be treated equally and fairly? Aren't we all humans? So don't we all deserve the same rights as one another? Most Mexicans come to the United States illegally, or the stereotypical phrase "crossing the border." SO why should people willing to risk their lives and health, have to be denied the privilege to become a member of the so called "Greatest and most powerful country on the planet." If we are the "Greatest and most powerful country on the planet," we shouldn't be denying the equal treatment and rights of so called "foreigners" or "outsiders." By not wanting to give these immigrants the right and privilege to become apart of our society, we are creating walls and boundaries, thus separating and secluding families, resources, and culture from others. Which will then lead to weaker countries. Which then influences culture, knowledge, resource availability, and the traditions and rituals of the society.

A community that especially stood out to me was round lake, more specifically the education at RLHS. Our high school is mostly looked down apon because of our low test scores, our school teams, and the negative stereotypes people conduct themselves. I do not believe that we have bad teachers nor students. I think the reason our school has such low test scores is because of the lack of resources and motivation. I've talked to many people who aren't in honors classes & the thing that's always come up to why they think the aren't part of the the honors programs is because of the lack of motivation. Is there something the school can do to boost their motivation or is it a personal option one takes in order to succeed? Ultimately this is what will be the deciding factor in their lives because high school really is where you decide in which direction your life will extend to,leading them into the right direction. I feel that if we can fix this we can start to slowly bring up our rest scores as well as the negativity of round lake.

The United States is supposed to be a place where we are all supposed to be united, hence the name, and work for the freedom we were so graciously granted and also towards new opportunities. However, although our community is supposed to be moving forward, we are plagued with laziness, prejudice, racism, etc. Our country also focuses its expenses on other things, especially on war and in turn there is absolutely not enough money for education, which we need in order to also make advances in the global community. Another issue with a great amount of importance is the attitude of the contributors of the community itself. An incredible amount of people would reply to what I just listed up there with a simple 'so what?' and go back to watching the Real Housewives of New Jersey or whatever. It pains me to see all the closed minds, shut up tight, and hence leave nothing valuable to enrich our community . I hear all these non-progressing thoughts all the time, whether it be with my peers at school or while stumbling across FOX News. We don't have enough people who are willing to work towards a better country, and we stay in the same place while never expanding, when, if we had the majority of people willing to apply themselves and help the community take a step forward, we could be all together creating something bigger. This unity should be nurtured by all of its contributors, and because this attitude is rapidly decreasing in America's citizens, we will continue to deteriorate. This in turn is what makes these issues so heavy.

From my point of view I see teens completely ignoring their cultural backround and taking absolutly no intrest in exploring their ancestors and their heritages. The problem is not so much of the unavailablity of resources and witnesses from their lineages but the unwillingness to explore and imperse in the ocean of ethnic treasures. As these generations reject their true ethic backrounds they fail to carry the magnifigance of a persons pride in their mother country, culture, virtures and traditions which make the world truely colorful and diverse.
ReplyDeleteMy community with the most issues is the Round Lake High School. It contains four years of school that are very important and leads to college. The problem is that there are not enough of different types of classes for students or are not able to take a class because of space. Many people are willing to succeed, but never get the chance because once they are turned down they believe all their hard work was for nothing. No one should be told you can't take this class because we don't have any room. Which then has a consequence of a student learning at a level to easy for them and not have the advantage to learn at a higher one. In RLHS to many kids are being shoved into a classroom where the teacher can not focus on the student individually and therefore leave the child to learn something different from what the teachers point was. Also, many students are not sure what they should study after high school because there wasn't many options to choose from. Which then they are not sure of what interest they have. The point is that the RLHS should expand to give all the students opportunities to take a class and offer variety of subjects so that they have an idea of what they would love to do in life.
ReplyDeleteThe community that I think has the most issues is the U.S. political system, first lets take a look at the two major political parties, Democrats, and Republicans; other than working together and trying to compromise to solve issues deeper in society they seem to act more like "gangs" out to destroy eachother, as shown with the Republicans constant denial to pass bills, and the Democrats latest move to try to rest havoc on the Republicans was to have them singled-out, and checked by the IRS (according to the whole scandal that was all over the news) , and due to all the constant pointing of fingers, we make little to no progress at all, and we as a country seem to sink deeper and deeper into an abyss, we might not ever climb out of. The "gangbangers" within this system, or as some may call them, congressman. We vote for each congressman, because his views or belief are similar to our own, only for them to get into office and be absorbed into each of their parties, and that opinion to be obliterated, and instead they all just think as a party not as individuals, causing a stalemate like it's 1914 (haha, get it?). This issue is not of the kind that has one to blame, it's all to blame and when we accept that, it will be only at that point that we will begin to make progress.

DeleteI believe that the community with the most issues is the Religious community. In my opinion, Religion can be a strong means of separation, just like it can be a strong means of unity. There are so many issues in the Religious community. As a result of the different types of religion, it starts dividing the community into many others. Now, instead of Religion community you have the, Catholicism Community, the Atheist community, the Christian Community, the Buddhist Community...All of these different religions and beliefs do not give mutual benefit to all people because obviously, there will be a group of people who do not believe in such things. (For example, Atheists, Agnostics, Deists,etc). Another issue I see, is the unwillingness to accept. Yes, we know some people don't believe in these things, and I suppose that's fine, but what causes the separation itself is the blatant disrespect and nonacceptance of the religions from one religious group to another. For example,there are 2 types of atheists in my opinion; one who simply does not believe and but respects the religions, and ones who do not believe and disrespect the religion by trash talking it, indicating it as false or idiotic to believe in such things, and tries to convince them otherwise. Don't get me wrong, religious people can be the same way...by saying that they feel very sorry who don't believe what they do, or by trying to push their beliefs on someone who clearly does not believe. Overall, I think some issues in the Religious Community are: Separation, the unwillingness to accept, and the disrespect.

Why do we have such division? Why do we have so many types of religion? Why do certain groups disagree? Also, what influence does society play in this? Is it just the people, or cultures, communities, geographical locations, etc.?
One of my community with the most issues is the Round Lake High School. First of all, our school isn't the best one out there. Other schools think low of us because of our "reputation". When ever someone asks me on what school I go to they say "oh.. you go to round lake?". Assuming that it's not a good school. RLHS needs more classrooms since we're running out of space. Mostly other schools don't have mobile classrooms, but we do. Another issue with RLHS is that the students don't take their education seriously. All they care about is parties and having fun, but they aren't interested in their education which is a very bad thing. Improving our school with new technology, books, classrooms and etc., the students will be more interested in learning. We can change the image of RLHS little by little, it wont happen in the snap of a finger but if we work hard to change our school, our goal will come possible.

We're all too focused on what other people think of us, and as a result, we shape ourselves to fit those standards. Yet we all forget the fact that we're all thinking the same way, meaning they're too worried about their image to care about your image. I read somewhere that "you would be less worried about what other people think of you if you knew how seldom they did." Not trying to degrade and say you're not important, but just focus on making yourself happy before worrying about what other people think of you. People will only notice you if you're happy.
ReplyDeleteAs I was reviewing my chart one community that I saw that had the most issues was the community of high school students. More specifically, I would like to concentrate on how high school students voices are lost and not encouraged as much as they should be. I realize that there are some programs out there to encourage high school students voices, but these programs are usually exclusive leaving out the others who do not meet the requirements but still have their own opinions. All in all, I would like to see there be more open to the public groups where all students can express their views.
ReplyDeleteMy community with the most issues would be that of family. Your family is a community, although it can be small, it has, in most cases, the biggest impact on a person. The problem with the family community is that it is commonly disregarded or not seen as valued or worth it. Many people, and by this i really mean teenagers, see spending time with their family as a nuisance, and I am included in that. Families are the most important community in influencing how a person turns out to be. Many people do not realize this and hence avoid or are annoyed by having to spend time as a family. Spending time with your family builds character and teaches life lessons, and helps people grow into more happy and successful adults. This is why it is a problem if people aren't seeing this and don't do it, because they miss out on its benefits, and that could really hurt a persons character in the long run.
ReplyDeleteThe community that I belong to that I believe has the most issues is the teen community. We are a branch of individuals who aren't completely sure what to do, we try to find our place here in this world, trying to feel like we belong. That can lead to confusion and may cause them to commit actions that come out in a way they didn't necessarily intend. Such an example would that which lead to bullying, some people think it to be funny and that's why they do it, to hide their own insecurities, but they don't think of the person they're harming. We have a competitive nature to try and beat people at something, just for the greater glory. But is it our fault alone, or does it also to do with the people that influence us? I believe it does involve the people that influence us. We should try and extend a hand to teens everywhere in order to give them a much more secure atmosphere. Teens are the future, but how can anyone expect us to change things if they look and see the world we live in? We as a race have lived in it for a long time, but still things aren't great, so people should give teens more opportunities in order to expand their knowledge and help out, because we need everyone if we hope to accomplish anything.
